Make your voice heard! Join MIRA for the 22nd annual Immigrants’ Day at the State House, the biggest lobbying day of the year for immigrants, refugees and allies. We'll gather at 10am, have a brief speaking program at 11am, then fan out through the building to meet with legislators and advocate for priority bills and funding for programs such as English classes and adult basic education.
The session is almost over, and the Mass. Legislature has done NOTHING to protect immigrants in our Commonwealth! Let's send the message loud and clear: Doing nothing is NOT an option!
We also plan to highlight the key role of foreign-born workers in some of Massachusetts’ top economic sectors, such as healthcare, technology, and hospitality, with business leaders and public officials joining us. Mark your calendar and make sure to be there!
Speakers will include Mass. Labor Secretary Rosalin Acosta, Senate President Harriette Chandler, Boston City Councillor Andrea Campbell, Sandra Cotterell of the Codman Square Health Center, Dreamer Palloma Jovita, and Alejandra St. Guillen of MOIA as our emcee. Stay tuned for two more immigrant speakers!
We're recruiting volunteers as well as groups to do joint visits to legislators. To sign up for either of these and/or to get updates for all registered participants, please RSVP on EventBrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/immigrants-day-at-the-state-house-2018-tickets-43633570183.
