The Boston City Council Committee Housing & Community Development will hold a hearing on Docket #0144, relative to Inclusionary Development and Affordable Housing.
The committee is chaired by Councilor Lydia Edwards, and the sponsors of the hearing order are Councilors Flaherty, Flynn and Edwards.
The IDP, first created in 2000, requires that market-rate housing developments with ten or more units and in need of zoning relief support the creation of income-restricted housing. Over the life of the program, developers have directly created 2,599 income-restricted units, and IDP funds have created 1,414 income restricted units.
The City of Boston is currently reviewing the policy, which is currently set by executive order. The city council is also reviewing legislation that would allow the city to put inclusionary development into the zoning code.
