On February 14th we are having a LOVE JUSTICE Call-in Day! It's time to call all our state legislators and tell them we expect real Justice in our Criminal Justice system! We need to end mandatory minimums for nonviolent offenses. We need to raise the felony threshold rate to $1500. We need to invest in beds outside of prison instead of inside prison for those addicted to opioids. We need to raise the age of criminal majority to 19 and end the criminal prosecution of young children. And finally, we need to end the practice of long term solitary confinement for punitive purposes only!
Right now the two criminal justice bills from the House and the Senate have been sent to a conference committee to be reconciled. In order for a good, comprehensive bill to come out of conference we need to put pressure on the conference committee members. I am asking you to please call your state legislators and ask them to urge the conferees to pass comprehensive criminal justice reform.
The conferees are as follows:
Senator Cynthia Creem (Newton, Wellesley & Brookline),
Senator Bruce Tarr (Rockport, Gloucester, Ipswich, Rowley, Boxford, & Wilmington),
Senator William Brownsberger (Belmont, Watertown, Brighton, Back Bay & Fenway)
Representative Ronald Mariano (Quincy, Weymouth, & Holbrook)
Representative Sheila Harrington (Lowell, Pepperell & Groton)
Representative Claire Cronin (Brockton)
If you know anyone in the towns listed above - please ask them to call their state legislators on February 14th - LOVE JUSTICE Day!
We need to stop the numerous injustices happening in our criminal justice system - now!
