South Providence and The West End may be two neighborhoods with distinctions but we also know that ultimately, they share assets and families and also face the same social issues and challenges.
This neighborhood housing summit has been put together by housing industry professionals and community leaders and is meant to challenge individuals who live in both neighborhoods to come together and think critically around abandoned/vacant properties, existing forms of housing, and social services.
The purpose of this event is to hold space for residents by offering an explicit opportunity to build trust among each other, map assets in these neighborhoods, learn about housing and social services, and come up with solutions around each of those areas.
The intention of this process is to listen to residents from both neighborhoods. One of the outcomes we seek is to produce a catalogue of assets within our neighborhoods so that we as a community can focus on preserving, celebrating, and building upon those assets. We also seek to form a common housing agenda that can be used for several purposes including drafting equitable housing policies that positively impact our community.
With the understanding that having a collective impact is the best approach when trying to affect change for an entire community; we have come together to execute this event and continue to build on this process until we have tangible results.
We are asking you, as an important member of this community to join us in this effort to bring our neighbors together towards shifting the paradigm that currently exists to one that is created for and by this community.
